Pauline, in her 60s, meets Emma at a mother-care centre. Emma is a new mother seeking help for her depression. The two women are just getting to know one another when Emma suddenly disappears. Concerned, Pauline sets out to look for her. In the process, she recalls the complex and dramatic aspects of motherhood and is forced to come to terms with her own tragic past.
