1927-2012. Walo Lüönd grew up in Zug and completed an apprenticeship as a tailor before studying acting in Zurich. After gathering his initial experience on the Swiss stage, Walo Lüönd went abroad in the early 1950s and worked primarily in Munich, Essen and Berlin for more than ten years. While pursuing his stage career, Walo Lüönd also began working for television and film in Germany. In the 1970s he was discovered by Swiss filmmakers. His unforgettable interpretation of his role as Dällebach Kari in the film with the same name by Kurt Früh led to his breakthrough, which gave rise to a host of other films. Walo Lüönd has left his mark in Swiss films as an outstanding character actor, performing in more earnest, tragic or melancholic roles.
