In this first of the series, originally known as FILMS IST RHYTHMUS, he experiments with square forms. These forms appear in very simple to very complex compositions-from the beginning shots where the squares with the frame. The effect is a subversion of the cinematic illusion of depth.
A tilted figure, consisting largely of right angles at the beginning, grows by accretion, with the addition of short straight lines and curves which sprout from the existing design. The figure vanishes and the process begins again with a new pattern, each cycle lasting one or two seconds.
The movies were part of the Bauhaus programme as "science of viewing". Art and technology form an unity. The DVD collects the main work of the first decade of the Bauhaus in Weimar.
