"I love cinema, I am a fan of movies and I'm also a fan of doing business with films without borders, so I understand the two points of the issue, but the most important point is to save the cultural imperative of the movies. Because it's good for business, too. There was a time in Italy, when they were imitating the american movies in the seventies. We never bought any of those movies because we did them better, and there is no reason to have the same thing.
The cultural imperative encourages filmmakers to make movies about their culture, based on fact on the facts on the world - as Neorealism in the 50s. These are the movies we remember today. For the BICYCLE THIEF the just restored Rome. If there was no culture imperative in Italy, there wouldn't be that movement, there wouldn't be the French New Wave, and now we need it more than ever in Europe, as some european glam pics and the american glam pics get bigger and bigger.
There are enough super-heros in the movies. We need some super-heros here to make sure that these laws are passed. I am sure there is a way to serve business, but to be smart. Great business is by being different. The same thing never works."
