Like so many other young people in Switzerland, Jeremy, Marie, Théodora, Saray, Rana, and Claudia have attempted suicide. During their stay of several weeks at UCA, a permanent Geneva University Hospital unit for adolescents in a state of crisis, they try to understand the meaning behind their ordeal. The documentary accompanies them for 18 months in their search for the reasons that caused them to try to kill themselves.

"They have tried to commit suicide, usually with pills or medicine of one kind or another. They suffer, they’re absent, or violent. They’re young. In a crisis unit for adolescents in Geneva, a team of psychologists tries to lead them back towards life. Danielo Catti decided to follow six of these precocious depressives to try and better understand a social phenomenon, the first cause of mortality among the young: the desire to end one’s life when one has scarcely begun to live its first moments. Principally composed of sessions of psychotherapy, SANS MOI - OHNE MICH -SENZA DI ME enters the innermost part of the problem with discretion and amazing understanding. Lack of self-esteem, guilt, hate, nostalgia for a lost childhood… Between close-ups and more distant shots, Danielo Catti begins, step by step, to grasp the full extent of the malaise. At the heart of the suffering: the relationship with parents for which every young person bears the burden. The solution? The dawn of awareness. This is the path along which psychologists try to lead adolescents. Not without some unwillingness or anger. Like this young girl – a violent and touching scene – who can’t stand people talking to her about her father of whom, according to her, she never thinks. Crises that often receive little sympathy from friends, or, worse still, are brushed off as a passing whim – from which young people nevertheless emerge stronger. When, a few months later, having come close to death or suddenly realizing what the problem was, they have overcome the hurdle. But the fact remains that they could have died."

Born in 1955 in Lugano. 1976-81 Studied at INSAS (Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle et Techniques de Diffusion), Brussels. Diploma in film, TV and radio production. 1986 FEMI (Flemish European Media Institute). 1991-96 Numerous documentaries for TSI.
