Peter von Gunten

The Anabaptist movement began in the16th century as part of the Reformation. Throughout Europe, Anabaptists were persecuted, forced to recant their faith, imprisoned and executed. The film portrays Mennonites who live in the Swiss Jura today: Mennonites like the Amish of Swiss descent who live in Indiana (USA). They share the same principles, among which are living according to the Bible, practicing adult anabaptism, leading a life free of violence and separating religion and government. The members of the communities portrayed in the film offer outsiders the possibility of participating directly in their religious, cultural and daily lives.

Peter von Gunten

Born in 1941 in Bern. 1956-61 Attended Kunstgewerbeschule in Bern. Further studies in Art History. 1960-64 Graphic designer and photographer for various advertising agencies and graphic design ateliers, as well as illustrator for animation film ateliers. 1964-70 Independent atelier for graphic design, exhibition design and photography. Since 1967 author, director, cinematographer and producer of short films, documentary and feature films.
