Broken Silence

Wolfgang Panzer

Fried Adelphi, a Carthusian monk, is sent to Indonesia by his fellow brothers to extend the lease for his monastery in Switzerland. However, he is gripped by claustrophobia on the plane and is forced to disembark at the first intermediate landing in New Delhi. Ashaela, his young, sparkling Afro-American neighbour on the plane, attends to him, and they embark on an adventurous trip through India and across the ocean to Indonesia. Little by little, a relationship develops between the two thoroughly different personalities. Ashaela suffers from a hereditary heart disease and knows that she does not have much longer to live. The confession Fried has to absolve before returning to the monastery is a hard task for him.

the dvd we had (because it is sold out now) had english subtitles. is there something closed captions can do that open captions can't?

A friend gave me this film to watch, highly recommended it. But i'm recently deaf and need closed captions in English (though could probably watch it very very slowly with the French subtitles it has). Does anyone know who to contact to recommend or order captioning? Thank you.

unfortunately not. there is only one edition which has german, french and italian subtitles

we would like to offer this beautiful film to our newphew and to his Indian wife: they only speak Englis. Have you got on sale a version with English subtitles of the passages which are in German/ Swiss German
