Raymond Vouillamoz

A love story set in the year 1803 in the Valais, which is under Napoleon’s rule at the time. Set against this historical background, an impossible and forbidden love between two farmers, the beautiful and timid Marthe and her cousin Théophile, who is the illegitimate result of his mother’s rape. Marthe is betrothed to marry his older brother but falls for Théophile. The couple are soon embroiled in a maelstrom of deceit, betrayal, jealousy and desperation. Their tumultuous love doomed in a century where severity rules and where the ruling landlords have control over the peasants’ lives.

Raymond Vouillamoz

Born in 1941 in Martigny. Studied at the École Supérieure de Commerce de Neuchâtel. Worked as a trainee director at the French Swiss Broadcasting Service (TSR) as journalist and cinema critic. 1966-79 Works as filmdirector at TSR, responsible for a number of various reports. 1979-90 Head of fiction department at TSR. 1991 Director of fictional programs at LA Cinq in Paris. 1992 Director of national and regional programs at France 3. Director of programs at TSR.
