This anniversary compilation in two DVDs contains 25 films and is an insight- ful and sumptuous banquet of highlights from the last 20 years of our existence. The bonus material features interviews with former and current students, and the booklet offers a colourful gallery of making-of pictures and articles reflecting on our films and the current state of film education in the film industry in Switzerland.

On that note, it’s time to pop the corks and toast: Go Video!

2011

We get the news every day. And all the pictures to it, too. Often they bear witness to terrible things, yet somehow we are magically drawn to the catastrophes out there. Unless we totally blank out world affairs, we all have to develop a kind of self-protective filter. We are constantly torn in this conflict between shock and curiosity. The large-scale video projection addresses the question of how society deals with today’s flood of information and the sensationalist media coverage.

The Ascending

Ever since the beginning of mankind, humans have explored the limits of their existence. Just how far, how high, how fast can I go until my body fails me? A documentary about two friends on their search for an invisible boundary.

A city at night. A young man is running from light to shade, from shade to light. He seems scared. But there are no pursuers, it is his past tormenting him. Then all of a sudden, his running turns into a movement of freedom, of emotions that touch the soul. Impressions of a young urban generation looking for a place in society.

Nid hei cho

A remote alpine farm in central Switzerland that can only be accessed by cable car. This is where Anna Arnold lives. She speaks about her husband and his passion – poaching. Toni Arnold, the neighbour, tells the story from his perspective. The voices unite in a kind of “dialogue” and give insight into the tension and fears, the misfortune and mourning the families of poachers are exposed to. A fresh approach to an old topic.

Rasende Liebe

A passion for cars can take on the most inconceivable forms. Meier's film shows to what extent this passion reveals a car lover’s personality, where a seemingly banal surface hides a secret world of emotions.

Die unglaublichen Abenteuer des Raumschiff Inflitrator

Florian and Rolf, who is the actor in his film, are watching the 42nd episode of the incredible adventures of the Infiltrator Enterprise “Im Kopf”: Captain Kalinka, played by Rolf, travels through space in his spaceship. He meets a head floating in space. He makes a hole in the head and jumps in. This is the end of Florian’s film, for he lacks the motivation to work any further. But for Kalika, the story continues: he meets little Flo, who lives inside the head and can do whatever he likes, except leave the head.

Nach dem Fall

Two brothers trying to patch up their relationship. Filmmaker and younger brother Marcel Wyss hopes to rebuild the trust he has lost in his older brother, and embarks on a trip to Spain with him. The brothers soon find their roles reversed from that of helper to helpee and vice versa. Although they hope to turn a new leaf and get on a more equal footing with each other, a difficult drug addiction in the family needs to be urgently addressed.

Heimspiel

About living above, below, next to and opposite each other in a Swiss apartment building. A glimpse of organised bourgeoisie. A house falls from the sky. Windows open and close. eight flats, forteen people, two cats, one tiger fur, one whistling garden gnome, one lawn mower, one washing machine, one keyboard, one guitar, one recorder, two world maps, five computers, ten TV sets, one locked door. One resident is a globetrotter who has settled down, the oldest is the queen, and she lives above the nurse with the child. An artist couple. At the top, a lyricist and a policeman with his wife and son. The shy blonde and the African from a large city. The single guy. And the shut door with the heart – the others will tell us who lives behind it. The smell of coffee wafts through the staircase, wild stories being told and the sound of a guitar can be heard. A cat runs after soap bubbles, and something not entirely pleasant has started cooking in the attic. The closed door – will stay closed.
